CAPTCHA spam control

This web site now uses a simple version of the so called 'CAPTCHA' challenge and response spam control system to thwart automated spambots from posting their spam on this web site.

On several of our other Drupal web sites, installing the 'CAPTCHA' and 'Riddler' modules has resulted in 99.9% effective spam control.

As a consequence it has become even easier to use this web site and to access support options: people may now post comments and forum topics without needing to first register on this site. Forum posts and comments will also be immediately visible to visitors of this web site.

Note however that due to some idiosyncrasy in the CAPTCHA module you may need to sometimes click the 'Submit/Post' button another time.

CAPTCHA now to help: Digitizing Books One Word at a Time

The CAPTCHA system on this site has just been upgraded. Automated spam to this site is now just about impossible.

The captcha validation and the image handling is done by computers at Carnegie Mellon University.

Carnegie Mellon coordinates the work various institutions are doing to digitise books previously only published on paper.

Users to this site now help these institutions to PROOFREAD those newly scanned books simply by solving a captcha puzzle. People all over the world spend 150.000 hours per day solving some 60 million captcha puzzles. Some of those hours are now effectively applied to help proofread those newly digitised books.

What?

I can't even see anything on some sites that claim they have CAPTCHA. This is really starting to annoy me. I've tried different computers even in different areas (for example, the library) and different Internet Service Providers, and there is NOTHING anywhere on the page where you type in a response. I see it on some sites, but on many forums and other pages, it simply isn't there even when it is claimed to be.

Re: What?

Are you saying you did not get this question? "Do you dislike spam too? (yes or no):"

If you did (get the question) and answered you have actually used the CAPTCHA module in this case with the RIDDLER plugin.

Have fun...

A Drupal fan
